8096/97 16 bit microcontroller Introduction

The 8096 is a 16 bit micro controller.It's internal circuit arrangement can be divided into several blocks for describing its operation .it contains a 16 bit CPU , a programmable high speed I/O unit, an ADC, serial port , and a pulse width modulated output for digital to analog conversion . In addition to these function units, there are some section that support overall operation of the chip such as the clock generator and the clock-bias generator .The CPU and the programmable I/O make the 8096 very different from any other micro controller.

The family members of 16–bit micro controller 8096 are 8094/8095/8096/8097/8394/8395/8396/8397.All of these members have been designed for high speed control functions.It's CPU supports bit ,byte and word operations.The 32–bit double word are supported for a subset of the instruction set.with an 12 MHz input frequency,the 8096 can do a 16 bit addition in 1 microseconds .The average instruction execution time 1 to 2 microseconds in typical applications.

The 4 high speed trigger input are provided to record the times at which external events occur.the 6 high speed pulse generator output are provided to trigger external events at present times.The high speed output unit can simultaneously perform timer functions.Up to 4 such 16 bit software timers can be in operation at once.

An on chip ADC converts up to 4 or 8 analog input channels to 10 bit digital values.This feature is only available on the 8095,8395,8097 and 8397.
